Dr. Moses Thindisa Dr. Moses Thindisa

Moses a doctor in the Ivory Park area and in fact has his clinic on the same premises as the Home. he was seeing a lot of these damaged children when the parents were applying for disability grants and realized that there was a desperate need for care for these little souls as most of them were left at home alone while the parents were out at work or were just abandoned. He began by taking a few of the most desperate cases into his own home and from there, Tumelo home grew.
Mrs. Orina Thindisa Mrs. Orina Thindisa

Orina, Dr. Moses' wife decided that she should take an active part and started running the home purely on donations and in the beginning, in very difficult circumstances. Orina was taking care of the children in a wood and iron building which had no running water or electricity and yet, despite that, the children were clean, well cared for and fed adequately. This was the beginning of a long road to the new home.
Ann Maynard Ann Maynard

Ann Maynard, received the Nelson Mandela award for her outstanding efforts in raising funds for a clinic, community centre and finally the home for the children. She is my absolute role model; she is now 99 years old and still taking a great interest in the home and still busy writing letters in an ongoing fund raising effort. She was at the opening and gave the most inspiring speech. The home is run purely on donations and every cent donated goes directly into the running costs of this wonderful place.

I was born in Durban, South Africa and then moved to Johannesburg where I was introduced to the Tumelo home. I now live here in the USA but have strong ties to South Africa and feel a great compassion for the children and staff of Tumelo Home and continue to try and improve their lives in any way possible. I have spent many years traveling the world and seen incredible things but the people of Tumelo home inspire me to do more for those less fortunate than myself and to have greater compassion for the world in general.
